At this point it is helpful to understand why we do what we do so we can replace the behavior that is causing unwanted outcomes by new behavior that is appropriate and useful for the situation.
Many times we carry with us old patterns and behavior learned when we were young. In the past they most likely worked for us to deal with those situations however they are outdated and are not giving us the result we hope for in our present situation.
Becoming aware of old patterns is very useful and a major step however it is not all yet.
