How it all started in 2004 – the first and only multilingual and multicultural online coaching and counseling practice geared exclusively towards the expat community is started by Robbert Nuis.
The idea for a counseling practice specifically for the Expat communities was first born in 2004. The idea originates from founder Robbert Nuis.
At the time he was going through the Hypnotherapy training with the H.T.I. and several NLP courses with NLP Marin. Having been an expat since the age of 1 1/2 and gone through extensive personal training and development he realized nobody was targeting expats alone.
Online Marketing and SEO
After having done extensive market research he realized there must be a market for it. Coaching and Counseling for and by Expats!
Knowing virtually nothing about online (internet) marketing he followed an Internet Marketing course which gave him a first stepping stone. From this he understood the power of the internet and taught himself more online marketing techniques such as SEO, SEA, SMO and SMA.
He set up 4 different websites targeting expats in 4 various ways testing his knowledge and the online expat counseling market. He set up trial periods in different cities and finally decided to officially set up business in Amsterdam in 2004.
After some initial fallback and going through some learning curves his practice blossomed. By now people started contacting him asking to work for and with him.
Because his online presence was so visible he also got many requests for internships.
Expat Counseling Franchise
After reading Tim Horton’s franchise book he believed that a franchise concept could also work with counseling. From 2008 till 2010 he turned his Expatriate Counseling practice into a franchise business.
At one point with affiliate branches in Côte d’Azur and Paris France, Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam The Netherlands, San Francisco USA, Zurich Switzerland, Halifax Canada and Bangkok Thailand.
Skype Coaching for Expat and Digital Nomads
In 2014 Skype Coaching was introduced to accommodate the flexibility of the Expat and Digital Nomads.
Now, in 2020, after 16 years, Expatriate Counseling is still serving the expat and digital nomad communities in multiple cities and countries although now under the new name Conscious Living Coaching.
About the founder Robbert Nuis
I have been an expat since I was 1 ½ years old. Moving to Hamburg Germany, so I can honestly say that I know, from experience, what it is like to move around a lot and start fresh in new surroundings.
Being an expat does not have to be difficult IF you take care of yourself. Unfortunately, that is where a lot of people get caught up in the many distractions of life and forget to listen to their own inner voice.
I wish everybody a great day and if for some reason it is not, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to helping more expats and digital nomads from around the world in the years to come.
